Port St. Lucie Leads Nation in Homeownership Rates Among Residents (featured)

Port St. Lucie, Florida, has emerged as a leader in homeownership, boasting one of the highest rates among the nation’s largest cities. According to a new analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by PropertyShark, nearly 85% of Port St. Lucie residents owned their home as of 2024—a significant increase over the past decade.

The city's homeownership rate has risen by 4.8 percentage points since 2019 and 6.2 points over the past 10 years, marking a steady upward trend despite economic challenges such as rising mortgage rates and housing affordability concerns. Among the 100 largest U.S. cities, Port St. Lucie stands out as the leader in homeownership.

This growth contrasts with national trends, where the overall U.S. homeownership rate currently sits at 65.2%, up slightly from 64.1% five years ago and 63.1% a decade ago. While the national rate has shown slow and steady growth, Port St. Lucie’s rapid climb highlights the city’s appeal to homeowners seeking affordability, quality of life, and investment opportunities.

With a strong housing market and increasing homeownership rates, Port St. Lucie continues to attract buyers looking to put down long-term roots in a thriving Florida community.
