The Florida Aquarium in downtown Tampa has once again proven its status as one of the region’s premier attractions by welcoming more than 1 million visitors in 2024, marking its second consecutive year to surpass this impressive milestone. Since its opening in 1995, the Aquarium has steadily grown in popularity, and it first reached the 1 million guest mark last year—a moment celebrated with a special ceremony on December 19, 2023.
In 2023, the Aquarium embarked on a transformative $45 million expansion project, underscoring its commitment to conservation, education, and creating unforgettable experiences for visitors. “The Florida Aquarium continues to thrive, reaching historic milestones and enriching the lives of our guests through conservation, education, and unforgettable experiences,” stated President and CEO Roger Germann. He added, “Welcoming one million guests for a second year in a row is a testament to the dedication of our team, the investments we’ve made, and the community’s excitement for their Florida Aquarium.”
Looking ahead, Aquarium officials are enthusiastic about maintaining this momentum. In the summer of 2025, the Aquarium plans to unveil the second phase of its expansion. This phase will introduce a redesigned second-floor mezzanine that features an expansive touch experience, including a tide pool water feature and an aquatic lounge designed to engage visitors in interactive learning and immersive experiences.
