SeaPort Manatee Breaks Records, Fuels Southwest Florida's Economy (featured)

SeaPort Manatee, a key economic driver in Southwest Florida, set new records in fiscal year 2024, moving more cargo than ever in its 54-year history. Port officials have reported unprecedented tonnage, containerized cargo volumes, and significant growth in economic impact and job creation.  

Record-Breaking Cargo Activity  

In the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, SeaPort Manatee handled 11.81 million tons of cargo, 

a 7.2% increase over 2023. Containerized cargo also reached a historic high, with 168,897 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) processed, marking a 1% annual rise. These figures underscore the port’s pivotal role in the movement of essential commodities, including fresh produce, fruit juices, construction materials, phosphate rock, gasoline, and other fuels.  

Economic Impact and Job Creation  

SeaPort Manatee’s economic influence soared to $7.27 billion in FY 2024, a dramatic 41.91% increase from the previous year, according to a report by Martin Associates, an economic and transportation consulting firm. This surge reflects the port’s growing importance as a hub for trade and commerce in Florida.  

In addition to its economic contributions, SeaPort Manatee is a significant job creator, responsible for 42,094 direct and indirect jobs statewide, up 13.77% from 2023. This growth translates to over 5,000 new jobs in a single year, further solidifying the port’s status as an economic powerhouse in the region.

The port is a major conduit for fresh produce and fruit juices, helping to supply markets across the state.
