Babcock Ranch, a pioneering community located about 15 miles northeast of Fort Myers, Florida, recently proved its resilience during Hurricane Milton, enduring the storm without losing power and sustaining minimal damage. Billed as “the Hometown of Tomorrow,” Babcock Ranch was specifically designed to withstand powerful storm-force winds, making it one of the most storm-resilient communities in the state.
Since welcoming residents in 2018, Babcock Ranch has combined advanced infrastructure with sustainable energy solutions, including extensive solar farms, ensuring that its nearly 10,000 residents have access to uninterrupted power. During Hurricane Milton, Babcock Ranch’s durable structures and self-sufficient power grid kept the lights on and maintained essential services, with the community reporting only a few downed trees and traffic lights. This impressive resilience stood in stark contrast to the severe power outages and infrastructure damage experienced in many parts of Florida.
